More often than not a song of this nature and subject matter would typically be crafted into a ballad. I wanted to capture the gravity and heart pounding tension of the situation as well as touch on a bit of North Novie history. Shipped over to England in 1941, the Regiment finally landed on Juno beach on France's Normandy coast at approximately 10:30 AM GMT June 6th, 1944. At this hour the folks back home would just be starting their day which is relected in the line "I can see mama cookin' in the kitchen..."

Following D Day the regiment would fight battle after battle all the way to Berlin and concluding in the fall of the Nazi's Third Reich. The North Novie's history during this period is quite a tale of heartbreaks and triumphs.

I've always had an affinity for the N.N.H.S. -"the boys"; perhaps because I, like them, grew up in rural and small town North Nova and cherish the gift that is our home as I know they did. Their sacrifices shall never be forgotten. - PM
